Tonight I attended the maiden performance/meeting of Campfire Tales, a storytelling initiative inspired by and modeled on "The Moth." There were storytellers at all levels of the spectrum in terms of writing quality, vocal delivery and pacing, and arc -- from national caliber and fully memorized to just starting out, terrified, and reading from scraps of paper or their composition book. In short, something to encourage and motivate anyone along the entire scale of creativity and performance ability, with plenty of audience support for all. I'm delighted that organizers Ryan McAbery and Mollie Chen, and their pick-up team of volunteers, took the leap, and I hope their enterprise prospers and grows. I might well show up at a future event to do a few things of my own.
